“Lost Idols”

Your tongue of steel could cut through thickest ice

A secret smile, you wear it like a crown

Concerns don’t dare to pierce your heart, so light

You dream too high to fear of crashing down

Your words are meant to guide my wide-eyed heart

Intent to save me from life’s painful strike

A steadfast faith in all things flawed or scarred,

You bleed for those who only know to bite

I watched your clever words turn cold with scorn

My trust, you wave as careless as a fan

Resolved to burn too bright, too hot, too bold

No need to see those scorched by your own hand

Despite the sting you seem to hide within,

your love persists through even blood and sin
