Traveler’s Heart vs. Home-body’s Wallet

The thermostat is dropping and rising like my GPA; Mississippi weather…ugh! So, I’m drinking salted caramel hot chocolate (Major Polar Express vibes). I advise you fixing yourself a cup while reading. Don’t forget to add whipped cream and cinnamon for all you Once Upon a Time fans!

“People don’t take trips, trips take people.” – John Steinbeck

Here’s a sneak peek of what it’s like to be a college freshman: YOU’RE BROKE! Among gas money, school supplies (Yes, I’m talking to you, textbooks), tuition, and many other miscellaneous fees, your wallet gets to looking mighty thin. And despite having no money, you (or at least I) still divulge in those fast food runs. Before you know it, you’re scraping up the quarters on Friday afternoon to wash those jeans that you may or may not have worn three days in a row…oops!

“For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.” – Robert Louis Stevenson

Like every other young adult who is realizing that her life is about to start, I want to run (or drive) the other way. I’ve always have the desire to travel, and not just to the nearest beach. Because half of my favorite books are set there, it’s my dream to make it to London, England one day. I also want to go to Rome, Italy; Santorini, Greece; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Madrid, Spain. And all this is after I conquer all of the great USA. My bucket list is quickly turning into a 10 page essay with an attached reference book. My sights are set way too high, and I’m highly aware that I’ll probably never travel to those exotic places, but it does  me no  harm to dream. Maybe one day I’ll make it to one of my many places.

“Age considers; youth ventures.”

Rabindranath Tagore

Therefore, I’m not giving up just yet and neither should anyone else. If you want to go, go! If there’s a chance for you to fulfill your travelling dreams, take it and run. “Carpe diem” means seize the day as in today, not tomorrow! You can bet your life on the fact that if an opportunity appears for me to jump ship to one of those many places on my bucket list, I will take it. I’m not saying to abandon all reason. My bank account is my restriction, but I’m aware that many others exist. It could be a job, a family, or one of many reasons that keep you stationary, but that still doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to dream; I sure as hell am.

All in all, it’s the same broke college kid story; everyone’s heard it before. But I’m young, so this story still has a middle and an end. So, maybe one day, this blog will feature some photos of my future excursions to the great unknown (Or at least unknown to me)! Stay tuned…
